Meetups cancelled indefinitely

Hi all,

Thought I would drop a quick note to say that the Brisbane Alt.NET meetup for tomorrow night (Wednesday) has been cancelled and that for now I have also cancelled all future meetups.

Organising this meetup without a regular venue has always been challenging and whilst it is frustrating for me it is also unfair on everyone else in the group. Late changes and cancellations do nothing to endear us to this community - of this I am well aware. Now we are at the point where personally I think that it is best to at least temporarily shutdown the meetups.

I still believe in what can be achieved through this group but for now it is being sedated. The lack of success could easily be attributed to me personally and I am happy to bear that criticism. I admit that I am not the best leader for this community but when organising I always tried my best to keep things growing.

People who would like to provide feedback can always reach out to me on Twitter ( @sburman ).

Special thanks to all those that have helped in the past with presentations and venues. I strongly believe we will be back in some form.

Cheers,

Steve

July meeting

This month Mehdi Khalili will be presenting on his simple to use, but extensible BDD framework BDDify. Get a heads up by checking out the introductory blog post : Introducing BDDify: A simple BDD framework for .Net.

Mehdi has kindly stepped into the breach knowing that this meeting is a clash with the State of Origin rugby league (which kicks off at about 8:15pm). He has promised to keep it short and to make things more suitable for those who want to watch the game I would expect this meeting to have concluded by about 7:30pm.

I am sure that any nearby pub would be a suitable place to catch the game.

Late venue change - May Meeting

There has been a late venue change required for tonight's meeting. It would be appreciated if folks could circulate this email where required.

Please see the below details as received from OJ :

Hey guys,

This morning I had a call from my contact in Suncorp, he told me that the had to deal with his kids this evening and hence couldn't be there for the meetup. Given that his attendance was required for us to have the venue, it meant we were left venue-less!

I obviously didn't want to cancel a second week in a row, so I hit the network and have managed to line up another venue at Mincom. Details are:

Mincom Building
Level 7, 193 Turbot St, Brisbane

That's the official address, but the entrance is actually off Anne Street. There's a big escalator which takes you to Level 1, and you can get the elevators from there. My contact in Mincom (Charlie) needs to get people in and out with a security pass, so we'll have to batch people up at the door to get them in. When you get to level 7, the room is the conference room just to the right on the inside of the doors (again, Charlie will sort us out there).

March meeting

This month Joel Pobar ( @joelpob ) has kindly volunteered to do a 'deep dive' presentation on .Net performance. See the blurb for full details.

We have moved the meeting to the MS offices again due to the regular venue still being out of commission. Hope to see you all there. Don't forget to arrive by 6pm.

Deep Dive .NET Performance

From a clock cycle, to the loading and running of a managed .NET assembly over multiple CPU cores: come and have a bit of fun exploring the binary world of CPU caches, bus bandwidth, and instruction sets, abstracting right through to code execution, JIT compilation and managed execution. We'll cobble all this together and walk through some high performance, high throughput scenarios borrowed from the finance domain.
